How to replace an Audi A4 rear brake light bulb

My rear signal/tail/break light went out on my Audi A4 B8 (2008-2015) this weekend. I got a light sensor warning indicator on my dash. It was my first time changing a light bulb for a my car so I decided to document what I had done. It turned out to be very easy.

Things you will need

  1. Keys to your car
  2. Phillips Screw driver
  3. Replacement bulb Sylvania 7506 LL

1. Pop open the trunk and pull down the latch to access your light compartment

My problem light was on the right side. The latch on the left side looks slightly different.

2. Find the screw that holds the light compartment

There’s a few holes in the rectangular shaped screw. Try to loosen with your hands first.

If you have troubles, stick your screw driver in there and pull up to loosen. Then continue with your hands to completely remove it.

3. Pull the light compartment out

Here’s a close up of the screw. Good design for ease of access and tighten without need of special tools.

You can leave the cable to the light compartment attached as it should be long enough for you to work on disassembling. Turn the box around to locate the four screws sealing the area where the bulb is located.
